IND vs AUS Live Score, 2nd ODI: India (83/2 in 19 ov), Rohit cuts loose, hits 2 sixes against Mitchell Owen

10
A much better block of 10 overs for India as they try to put the pressure back on Australia.

The visiting side lost 2 wickets in the first 10 overs - both coming in the 7th over from Xavier Bartlett.

After struggling for a long long time, Rohit finally hit back against Australia's 5th bowler in the 17th over of the match. Shreyas Iyer is with him as both try to up the ante against the Australia attack.

Live Score: India (92/2 in 21 overs) vs Australia. Rohit Sharma (49*), Shreyas Iyer (32*).

The Indian team attacks Australia's 5th bowler - the tall and well built Mitchell Owen - who debuted in the previous game.

After two sixes from Rohit, Shreyas Iyer plays a lofted straight drive against the seamer and helps India to 17 runs from that single over. Comfortably the best over from India so far as they up the ante against Australia.

Live Score: India (86/2 in 19 overs) vs Australia. Rohit Sharma (44*), Shreyas Iyer (31*).

Rohit Sharma gets the crowd going!

Mitchell Owen goes short to Rohit Sharma and he hits two back to back pull shots for six! Superb shot and the Indian fans come alive in Adelaide.

He has done the hard yards, surviving the morning spell and now he wants to capitalise. He has to capitalise if India are to post a decent total in the 2nd ODI.

18.1: Mitchell Owen to Rohit Sharma, SIX! That will give some confidence to Rohit Sharma! Owen bends his back and goes short, over middle. It comes at shoulder height to Rohit, who picks up the length early and plays the pull towards deep backward square leg. There was a man in the deep but Sharma got enough to clear the fence.

18.3: Mitchell Owen to Rohit Sharma, SIX! Second six in the over for Rohit Sharma! This one not too well timed. But Rohit just about gets underneath the ball and guides the ball through square leg for a six. Very good placement, and a lot of heart to hit that shot.

Live Score: India (83/2 in 19 overs) vs Australia. Rohit Sharma (43*), Shreyas Iyer (29*).

This is not a 300-run type of wicket says Adam Gilchrist on the broadcast. Gilchrist says that Rohit Sharma has probably assessed that this is a wicket where 250 runs are probably going to be enough.

And that brings us to a very important point. Throughout the build-up, the Indian broadcaster built it up as a flat batting wicket. Where is the due diligence towards your viewers?

That should also be a plug to what we wrote earlier in our preview.

Is Adelaide Really a Batting Paradise?

In the lead-up to the second ODI, much has been made of Adelaide’s reputation as a batting-friendly surface. India’s record here certainly supports that notion—they have won 9 out of 15 ODIs played at the venue and have remained unbeaten since 2008. Virat Kohli has been central to many of those triumphs.

However, Australian pitches have been evolving, and Adelaide is no exception. Being a drop-in pitch, the surface tends to have a healthy grass covering, which allows for early lateral movement. Ground staff were seen using warming lights in an effort to dry the surface ahead of the game, but early seam movement is still expected.

Shreyas Iyer attacks Xavier Bartlett. He has had enough of this. The first one, he tries to slice the ball over cover. Gets a good chunk of the ball and finds the boundary.

Shreyas tris to go aerial in the final ball of the over again and gets two runs over cover.

15.4: Xavier Bartlett to Shreyas Iyer, FOUR! Up and over! A bit too full from Bartlett and that allows Shreyas to get under the ball. Iyer swings hard to go over cover. He does not quite get hold of it but manages to clear the inner circle and the ball has enough legs to reach the fence.

15.6: Xavier Bartlett to Shreyas Iyer, Curving away from the right-hander, full and outside off, Shreyas takes a step towards the line of the ball. Plays the lofted drive over cover and collects a couple of runs.

Live Score: India (59/2 in 17 overs) vs Australia. Rohit Sharma (28*), Shreyas Iyer (20*).

When was the last time you saw Rohit Sharma come off the blocks this slowly in ODI cricket?

He has played 53 balls so far and has scored just 25 runs, that is an SR of 47.17

However, what needs to be commended that he has tried to survive and grind out a tough spell from Josh Hazlewood, who has been in superb form.

Hazlewood has bowled 7 overs on a trot. His figures at the moment read - 7-2-22-0. He is very unlucky not to get at least one wicket.

Live Score: India (46/2 in 14 overs) vs Australia. Rohit Sharma (25*), Shreyas Iyer (11*).

5.4: Josh Hazlewood to Rohit Sharma, Is that curtains to Rohit's innings or is there an inside edge that's saving him here? On a length, angling into the batter, Rohit Sharma looks to pick it up with a flick and deposit it in the stands around deep square but misses out. The ball his Rohit on the back leg that's leaning low. A loud appeal from the Aussies but the umpire shrugs it off. The Aussies opt for a review and send this upstairs. The UltraEdge shows a spike when the ball is next to the bat of Rohit and the on-field decision stays. Australia lose a review.

11.2: Josh Hazlewood to Rohit Sharma, Australia have now lost both reviews! The nip-backer from Hazlewood, on a good length, around off. Rohit is half-forward to cover the line but the ball jags back in to cut him in half. There is a noise as the ball goes through to the keeper. Mitchell Marsh has a chat with the bowler and the keeper before taking the review. The front-on replays do seem to indicate that the ball has missed the bat and seems to have clipped the back pocket. Yes, the UltraEdge confirms the same.

Australia have burnt both of their reviews against Rohit Sharma. And both of them have come from Josh Hazlewood as he continued to trouble the batter on the off stump.

In the sixth over of his spell, Hazlewood cut Rohit in half, getting the ball to come in sharply from length. Rohit gets stuck in his crease while trying to defend and the ball goes straight into the hands of the keeper. There is a noise for sure.

Australia take the review, and it turns out that the ball hit the back of Rohit Sharma's pocket while going to the keeper.

Live Score: India (37/2 in 12 overs) vs Australia. Rohit Sharma (23*), Shreyas Iyer (4*).

Ahead of the 2nd ODI, Irfan Pathan said that Virat Kohli was still being haunted by the demons of BGT 2024-25. That turned out to be true today.

On Thursday, the plan to Kohli was slightly different. Instead of playing with the length, Bartlett decided to play with the lines. Instead of trying to get Kohli to fish outside off, Bartlett attacked the stumps and surprised Kohli with the line of attack.

The veteran batter got late in his defence and ended up losing his wicket to LBW.

Live Score: India (33/2 in 11 overs) vs Australia. Rohit Sharma (20*), Shreyas Iyer (3*).

Alright then, time to analyse.

What happened here in Adelaide? The pitch was not that spicy. The deck did not have too much bounce. So what exactly happened?

India got off to a very tentative start in the 2nd ODI. With Rohit Sharma struggling for runs, Shubman Gill got out trying to search for boundaries.

Virat simply looks off colour. However much the batting coach says that Kohli looks in good touch in the nets - he really does not.

Kohli gets out to a relatively simple delivery from Bartlett, getting late on his shot.

Live Score: India (29/2 in 10 overs) vs Australia. Rohit Sharma (19*), Shreyas Iyer (0*).

Oh No! Virat Kohli falls for his second duck in a row in the tour of Australia.

Full and straight from Xavier Bartlett, and Kohli cannot keep it out.

6.5: Xavier Bartlett to Virat Kohli, OUT! LBW! Virat Kohli departs for another duck, the lack of playing time is quite evident in Kohli's form so far but this was an absolute peach from Xavier Bartlett. Full and straight. Kohli is very late on the flick and ends up getting trapped on the middle of the stumps. He has a long chat with Rohit and opts not to take a review.

You knew that this was coming. India were not moving the scoreboard at all, the pressure was building and the India captain falls trying to look for a boundary.

Excellent cricket from the Australians, but you have to say that the wicket was probably the result of Rohit Sharma's inability to score runs.

6.1: Xavier Bartlett to Shubman Gill, OUT! CAUGHT! Shubman Gill departs as Mitchell Marsh takes a good catch at mid off. On a length wide of off, Shubman Gill dances down the track and looks to just place this wide of mid off to his right but Gill ends up chipping this aerially and in reach of the Aussie skipper. Mitchell Marsh, at mid off, takes a few strides to his right, puts in a dive and catches this nice and clean. Shubman Gill departs.

Josh Hazlewood has started superbly today as well.

He continues to put Rohit in trouble on the outside of off stump. Rohit is quite tentative at the moment.

3.3: Josh Hazlewood to Rohit Sharma, Josh Hazlewood bends his back and hits the hard length around off, the ball nips back in sharply onto Rohit and beats him on the inside. Rohit is hit on his thigh pad of the front foot and the height saves him here.

3.6: Josh Hazlewood to Rohit Sharma, Shouts for LBW but the umpire turns it down. Josh goes a bit fuller around off, Rohit Sharma presses in front to block this but gets late to bring his bat down. Rohit is hit on the back pad and a massive appeal for LBW from the Aussies. The umpire turns it down for probably impact outside off here.

Live Score: India (14/0 in 5 overs) vs Australia. Rohit Sharma (8*), Shubman Gill (6*).

Very good confidence boosting shots from both Rohit and Shubman against Mitchell Starc.

The fast bowler fishes wide outside off stump after that run out chance. Shubman leans into the drive and hits it through the cover for four. Glorious shot from the batter.

Rohit in the final ball of the over flicks a greedy Starc for a four through square leg. Starc wanted that ball to come in hard, but strayed too much on the leg side.

A good over for India this one.

Live Score: India (11/0 in 3 overs) vs Australia. Rohit Sharma (6*), Shubman Gill (5*).

Oooooo!!! Rohit Sharma survives an early run out chance in Adelaide.

Shubman Gill taps the ball to point in the 3rd over against Starc. Rohit wants a run and storms out. But the fielding is simply too good at point, where the ball is stopped and thrown straight to the non-striker's end.

Rohit turns back, rushes and puts in a dive. He survives by the barest of margin.

If this was the earlier Rohit - he would have never made it into his crease.
