Ian Wright says Bruno Fernandes did something 'very underrated' vs Liverpool and he's not getting enough credit

Ian Wright has now singled out Bruno Fernandes for one major reason after the Manchester United captain’s superb performance against Liverpool at Anfield.

Liverpool hosted Manchester United at Anfield last Sunday and the Red Devils walked away with the ultimate bragging rights from the Premier League tie.

Goals from Bryan Mbeumo and Harry Maguire – in the first half and second half respectively – ensured United’s stunning 2-1 Premier League win over Liverpool.

Bruno Fernandes found himself once again playing in a deeper role for the Liverpool match, with Ruben Amorim tweaking the player’s position in his system this season.

The 31-year-old United captain started in the two-man midfield pivot alongside Casemiro and Fernandes played the majority of the match before he was subbed off.

What did Ian Wright say about Bruno Fernandes after Man Utd’s 2-1 Premier League win over Liverpool?

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim withdrew Bruno Fernandes in the 85th minute and he replaced the Portugal international with midfielder Kobbie Mainoo.

However, Fernandes had a major impact on the Liverpool match, only a minute before he was hooked off, with the United skipper picking up a key assist.

Fernandes was out on the left when the ball landed back in his path and the Red Devils midfielder immediately lofted a first-time cross into a dangerous area.

The United and Portugal star’s sublime pass found Harry Maguire in the Liverpool box and Fernandes’ teammate headed home the winner in the 84th minute.

Speaking on The Overlap, pundit Ian Wright felt that Fernandes’ sensational assist showed a “very underrated” trait that the Portugal midfielder has in his arsenal.

“You see Bruno’s ball in, I think it’s very underrated how good that was,” he said on the Stick to Football podcast.

“The technique for him to put that back in there on the volley was just like, it was brilliant.”

Bruno Fernandes’ performance vs Liverpool shows why the Man Utd captain can never be written off

Amorim’s tactical system for United has sparked debate once again this season for several reasons, including the knock-on effect it has had for United star Fernandes.

Fernandes has found himself much deeper in the United midfield, something that is the complete opposite of what Roberto Martinez is doing with him with Portugal.

The former Sporting CP midfielder’s influence has waned, but Fernandes has looked much more comfortable for United in recent weeks in the two-man midfield pivot.

Amorim has preferred to partner Fernandes with Casemiro in the heart of midfield and there have been times where the two-man pivot has been overwhelmed.

But Fernandes is finding a way to adapt to Amorim’s demands and the United ace has netted twice and picked up an assist in nine matches so far this season.
