Viktor Gyokeres' price tag revealed as Sporting striker's next club becomes clearer

There is a clear frontrunner in the race to sign Viktor Gyokeres, according to a new report, as one of this summer's most talked-about transfer sagas nears its conclusion... finally.

Gyokeres remains one of the most in-demand strikers in world football right now. The 26-year-old Sweden international, who has scored an impressive 97 goals in 102 games for Sporting CP, continues to attract interest from many of Europe's top clubs.

Last month, Portuguese outlet A Bola claimed Arsenal were the best-placed club to sign Gyokeres after he was asked "if he likes London" during a post-match interview, while Chelsea made a formal enquiry to Sporting over his availability in May.

Serie A giants Juventus also reached out to the Portuguese club regarding a potential move, but it appears a reunion with former manager Ruben Amorim is on the cards as Manchester United continue their search for a prolific centre-forward.

A new report from The Sun claims United are ready to pip Arsenal to the signing of Gyokeres, with Sporting ready to accept a fee closer to £60 million for the prolific Swede.

The report also published details around United's latest quarterly club accounts, with reductions in the player wage bill, amongst other cost saving measures, allowing the club to strengthen their squad this summer.

After initially having reservations over their failure to qualify for next season's Champions League, Gyokeres is said to have changed his mind on a move to United, according to The Mirror, who suggest a transfer is now a 'genuine possibility'.

Arsenal are looking elsewhere amid links to Gyokeres

Arsenal are also in the market for a new striker this summer, but it appears Gyokeres is no longer their top target.

In fact, the Gunners are "advancing" in negotiations for RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, according to Fabrizio Romano, who claims "discussions are underway and proceeding well" between all parties involved.

United have also been tracking Sesko's situation of late. We understand the club reached out to his representatives this summer to make informal enquires, but it appears he is destined for a move to North London.

On the subject of Gyokeres, the Swede was asked about his future after winning the double with Sporting.

“Let us see," he said. "It’s hard for me to say, because yeah it is football and you never know what’s going to happen in the summer. So for me to say anything else than that is impossible.”

“I don’t know, I just focus on this. I’ve tried to focus on the last games because it’s so important and I don’t want to think about anything else. So yeah, if anything is true, let’s see in the summer.”
