Manchester United target Benjamin Sesko has already addressed his previous comments suggesting he's better than Manchester City star Erling Haaland.

The pair have followed a somewhat similar career path - both having joined RB Salzburg, in Austria, in 2019. Each went on to make a name for themselves in the Bundesliga, and now Sesko appears primed to follow in Haaland's footsteps once more with a move to the Premier League this summer.

Sesko had previously been linked with a move to Arsenal earlier in the window, but the Londoners instead opted to sign Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP. Now, United and Newcastle are busy battling it out for the Slovenia international's signature, although United are believed to be in pole position, with widespread reports indicating the player favours a big-money switch to Old Trafford.

Back in 2022, Sesko addressed comparisons with Haaland and was quoted saying: "My teammates at the club tell me that Haaland and I are very similar, especially in terms of speed. Most of them even tell me that I'm better than him."

It's a comment that certainly raised eyebrows, given how prolific Haaland has proven to be in the Premier League with City. Though three years his junior, Sesko may well believe he can have a similarly significant impact in English football.

In a more recent interview, with The Telegraph, Sesko clarified that remark, explaining that he doesn't appreciate comparisons and simply wants to focus on becoming the best version of himself moving forward.

"What should I say?" he said. "I said it once, but it looks like I was saying I was way better than him.

"This is comparing me to someone who is one of the best players in the world. So, it's not easy to compare.

"I would not like to compare myself to anyone. I would just love to be myself and be the best myself."

Sesko scored 21 goals and registered six assists across all competitions for Leipzig last season. However, it wasn't enough to guide the Bundesliga team into the Champions League - as they missed out on qualification for UEFA's marquee competition for the first time in seven years.
