Eintracht Frankfurt vs Liverpool LIVE

Arne Slot will hope to arrest Liverpool’s dismal run as they visit Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League this evening. The reigning Premier League champions have struggled to build on last season’s success and have now lost four on the spin, the most recent of those coming at the hands of Manchester United on Sunday. Just three days later, though, an opportunity presents for the Reds to stop the rot.

Liverpool’s turbulent spell was compounded as they arrived late in Frankfurt thanks to a mechanical malfunction on the team’s plane, with the delay preventing Slot from completing his pre-match media obligations. They currently sit 17th in the Champions League table after being beaten by Galatasaray last time out, but could catapult themselves well up the standings with victory tonight.

Their hosts, meanwhile, are only one place up the road, narrowly leading the Reds on goal difference. They opened their campaign with a 5-1 rout of Galatasaray before being on the losing end of the same scoreline as they faced Atletico Madrid in early October. Eintracht Frankfurt 1-3 Liverpool

51mins: That half-time change means it’s Hugo Ekitike through the middle, with Chiesa on the right and Cody Gakpo remaining on the left of Liverpool’s attack.

Gakpo takes his latest corner, but Frankfurt manage to clear this one as it goes a little too deep for the Dutchman’s teammates.

Eintracht Frankfurt 1-3 Liverpool

49mins: And Chiesa goes close to scoring already!

In the second phase of play following a Liverpool corner, the ball is nodded through to the Italian - waiting patiently in the penalty box - but he can’t quite put it on target.

It was a difficult chance requiring some acrobatics, to be fair to him.

Back underway

46mins: Play resumes in Frankfurt, with Federico Chiesa coming on for Alexander Isak.

We’re not yet sure if that’s a tactical or precautionary substitution by Arne Slot, but the Italian winger has been in good form.

Still no Mo Salah for Liverpool, though.

Liverpool back to their goal-scoring best

I’m hearing that this is the first time Liverpool have scored three first half goals since December 2024.

They’ve left their hosts shell-shocked, and look to be on course to end their recent losing streak in style.

HT: Eintracht Frankfurt 1-3 Liverpool

The referee blows for half-time just as we complete the four minutes of added time.

Mercy for Frankfurt, who have some thinking to do after conceding three goals in the space of nine minutes to give up their early lead.

GOAL! Eintracht Frankfurt 1-3 Liverpool

44mins: Another corner, this one from the other side and converted by Ibrahima Konate, and Liverpool have well and truly turned this game on its head just before half-time!

The French defender, who has come under plenty of criticism recently for some lapses at the back, is earning plenty of cheers now from the travelling support after joining his central defensive partner Van Dijk on the score sheet.

Eintracht Frankfurt 1-2 Liverpool

41mins: Excellent defending from Conor Bradley, who slides in to block a dangerous looking chance in his box.

Play has been paused now as Frankfurt captain Robin Koch receives some treatment.

GOAL! Eintracht Frankfurt 1-2 Liverpool

39mins: Virgil van Dijk heads home from a corner and Liverpool lead!

That’s the captain’s 26th headed goal for Liverpool, of his 30 total successful efforts in all competitions since his debut in 2018.

Good positioning from Andy Robertson - starting ahead of Milos Kerkez here, and having already registered an assist for Hugo Ekitike’s opener - to make space for Van Dijk to rise high and thump that one in with all his might.

GOAL! Eintracht Frankfurt 1-1 Liverpool

35mins: Hugo Ekitike gets Liverpool back into it against his former club!

The Reds win back possession and Frankfurt’s backline is caught way too high up the pitch, leaving Ekitike to dash through on goal and poke the ball home for an equaliser against his old teammates.

A muted celebration by the Frenchman, but he left Frankfurt’s defence in the dust there as he latched onto a lovely through ball from Andy Robertson.

Eintracht Frankfurt 1-0 Liverpool

33mins: The Reds’ latest corner, an in-swinger taken by Cody Gakpo, fails to find a red shirt in the box.

As a few previous efforts like it have, it ends in play being halted for a foul, this time on Frankfurt’s goalkeeper - who did well to push Conor Bradley’s header, from a Gakpo cross, out for that corner in the first place.
