'A steep learning curve'

West Indies captain Hayley Matthews, speaking to Sky Sports: "It's obviously a bit disappointing. We knew coming here it was going to be a tough tour, missing some of our seasoned campaigners like Deandra Dottin and Chanelle Henry.

"Obviously a lot to ask from the girls, who are inexperienced. We'd obviously like to compete a bit better but we'll have to see how that goes in the next one."

On keeping players confidence up: "Just keep encouraging them. It definitely has nothing to do with the effort that they're putting in.

"We're asking girls who have probably played 30 or 40 matches ever in domestic cricket to perform on the international stage and it's always going to be hard.

"It's also hard to ask coaches to come to this level and turn girls into magic when we don't have a proper system to come through a lot of the time.

"We have to keep encouraging them and make sure they're having fun while they're playing as well.

"This is always going to be good for them, it's a steep learning curve. The mistakes we make as a team, we're all going to learn from together."
