Bryan Mbeumo to Man Utd takes fresh twist as 'transfer demand made'

Bryan Mbeumo is a wanted man this summer

Manchester United's pursuit of Bryan Mbeumo could be thwarted by Brentford's reported transfer demands, with Tottenham also showing interest following the appointment of Thomas Frank. Mbeumo has had a stellar season, netting 20 goals for the Bees, which has sparked considerable attention. United, keen to bolster their attacking options this summer, saw their initial bid of £45million plus £10m in add-ons rebuffed in early June. The Red Devils are gearing up to make another offer for the Cameroonian star, but Brentford have stipulated they want the majority of Mbeumo's fee paid upfront, according to the Evening Standard. They are not keen on a payment plan spread over several years. This could throw a spanner in the works for Old Trafford, as they were hoping to pay for Mbeumo in instalments if their bid was successful. Brentford are seeking a fee similar to the £62.5m that United recently paid Wolves for Matheus Cunha. Even those negotiations proved tricky for the Manchester side, who must adhere to financial fair play regulations. They initially wanted to pay for Cunha over five years before eventually agreeing to Wolves' terms of three payments over two seasons. This situation paves the way for Tottenham, who triumphed over United in last month's Europa League final and can now offer the allure of Champions League football as they scout for a new winger. Mbeumo is on their radar and is open to joining Tottenham, although his preference leans towards Manchester.

Tottenham have also earmarked Bournemouth's Antoine Semenyo as a potential target. Brentford are more than happy to ignite a bidding war as they aim to maximise their return on a player they signed as an unproven talent during their Championship days. Frank was instrumental in bringing Mbeumo to England as a teenager in 2019, and the two share a close bond, having been part of Brentford's journey from the Championship to the Premier League, where they've established themselves over the past four seasons.
