The Alexander Isak to Liverpool transfer saga has taken another twist this week.

Alexander Isak was left out of Newcastle’s pre-season tour squad as he decided to explore a move away.

Liverpool made a bid for Isak, but the Magpies opted to reject their proposal.

Newcastle have offered the striker a new contract, but reports suggest that the Swede has no interest in penning fresh terms.

Now, a fresh update on the situation has emerged this week, which has drawn the ire of one pundit.

Liverpool sent Alexander Isak warning after refusing to play for Newcastle

It emerged via The Athletic on Tuesday that Isak is ‘adamant’ he won’t play for Newcastle again even if he is unable to secure a transfer before the September 1 deadline.

Speaking to talkSPORT on August 12 when the news emerged, former striker Gabby Agbonlahor made his thoughts clear.

He was quick to hit out at Isak and warned Liverpool that he would ‘do the same’ to them in a couple of years.

Agbonlahor said: “Wow. Who does he think he is? Listen, I can have banter with Newcastle, but who do you think you are?

“Disgusting. What that club’s done for you.

He continued: “Real Madrid want him in two years when he’s 27, he’ll do the same to you.

“The fact that Newcastle missed out on Sesko, they’ve got every right to say listen, you’re going nowhere, we’ve lost Callum Wilson, we can’t get Wissa over the line yet as well. We’re not going into the season; they’ve got Villa on Saturday. Who does this guy think he is?

“You had a fantastic season, but settle down a bit, mate. If it doesn’t suit the club, shut up, get your boots on, big season for Newcastle, want to start the season well. Villa away tough game, and now you’re saying you’re adamant you don’t want to play, like what? That’s wound me up.”

Yoane Wissa to Newcastle United latest

As Agbonlahor mentioned, Newcastle lost out on Benjamin Sesko to Manchester United.

Earlier in the window, Liverpool signed Hugo Ekitike after the North East outfit were linked.

More recently, Newcastle have turned their attention towards Yoane Wissa, whom Brentford want £50m for.

TBR Football’s chief transfer correspondent shared an update on Wissa to Newcastle late last week.

He said: “Spurs did open talks with Yoane Wissa when Frank first came in. That was a player Frank specifically identified. But it looks like Wissa’s nailed on for Newcastle now.”
