Man Utd staff told wonderkid to improve his biggest weakness this summer, he passed with flying colours

Manchester United have several wonderkid talents who will be hoping to become the latest academy graduate over the upcoming season.

Ruben Amorim has shown his willingness to use the academy already in his brief time as the head coach of Manchester United.

Since taking charge of the Red Devils in November 2024, Amorim has debuted three United academy graduates, with Chido Obi, Harry Amass and Tyler Fredricson all playing multiple times at the end of last season.

Over the summer, Amorim has also used several United youngsters, which was a clear indication of who he views as a potential debutant this coming campaign, as it was clear he was going to use a smaller group.

United have no European football and so won’t be playing multiple times a week. However, there is space in the squad for young players to make their mark.

Ethan Williams caught the eye during pre-season, however, now it has emerged that another talent was set a gauntlet by the staff.

Manchester United staff challenged Jack Fletcher to improve physically

One player who was involved during the USA tour this summer was Jack Fletcher, with the 18-year-old slotting perfectly into the right sided number 10 position when given the chance.

Fletcher has been compared with Cole Palmer, with the pair being similar in terms of their left-footed ability bringing creativity and goals.

After joining the club at 16 from Manchester City, Fletcher was tipped as having immense potential by Erik ten Hag, and Amorim is also a fan despite not giving him a debut.

Now, according to Daily Mail journalist Nathan Salt, Fletcher had been challenged, at the end of last season, to spend the summer bulking up.

The gauntlet was to work on his physicality and also durability, which is probably the biggest aspect hindering Fletcher from not making his senior debut so far.

Salt then added that Fletcher is currently still involved in first team training, which suggests he won’t be with the U21s to begin the season.

Fletcher could in theory be the back-up or third choice right sided number 10 for United this coming season, which may lead to a debut.

Ruben Amorim should give Jack Fletcher his debut in League Cup

After playing a key role for United’s U18 side during the 2023/24 season, Fletcher took steps upwards last season, as shown as he was far too good when he briefly featured at U18.

Fletcher transitioned immediately to U21 football, even dominating against senior opposition. Fletcher was incredible against Barnsley, which showed he was beginning to be above youth football.

Wayne Rooney has even praised Fletcher for one goal he scored last season for the U21s and so the next logical step is to give the wonderkid his senior debut.

United play in the Carabao Cup second round in two weeks and this is where Fletcher’s debut could realistically arrive if United do get a favourable draw.

If Amorim is serious about Fletcher, this is a no brainer, if not then Jonny Evans will have to get busy about finding him a loan move this summer.
