Sydney Silence: Shreyas Iyer Heals, Family Holds Ground

In a worrying moment during the third ODI between India and Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground, India’s middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer suffered a serious internal injury while diving to complete a catch. The incident, which occurred in the 33rd over, led to immediate medical attention and hospitalization in Sydney, where he remains under observation.

Initial reports suggested that Iyer’s family would be flying to Sydney to be by his side. However, in a fresh update, his father Santosh Iyer, speaking exclusively clarified that the family has decided not to travel.

“The BCCI is monitoring his injury and he is on a recovery path. The best doctor in Sydney is treating him. He is likely to get discharged by weekend and perhaps may get even before that. Since he is not a part of the T20I squad, he will return soon,” Santosh Iyer told this reporter, adding, “Contrary to earlier reports, we are not going to Sydney.”

The injury, reportedly a laceration to the spleen, has ruled Iyer out of the remainder of the tour. While he is stable and responding well to treatment, the nature of the injury requires careful monitoring. The BCCI’s medical team is coordinating with specialists in Sydney to ensure a safe and timely recovery.

Iyer’s absence from the T20I squad means he is not required to stay on for the next leg of the series. Once discharged, he is expected to return to India for further rest and rehabilitation.

The cricketing fraternity has rallied around the stylish right-hander, sending messages of support and wishing him a speedy recovery. Known for his grit and flair, Iyer’s return will be eagerly awaited—not just for his batting, but for the leadership and energy he brings to the team.

For now, the focus remains on his health, and the hope is that he’ll be back on the field soon, stronger than ever.
