Bruno Fernandes lauds 'top class' person at Man Utd who will bring 'loads of success' in role that suits him

Bruno Fernandes’ captaincy credentials at Manchester United have come to the fore once again in a positive message in a sea of change at the club.

Ruben Amorim’s ‘changes at the club’ warning has not yet materialised quite as expected, as Man Utd have failed to move in the transfer market.

However, that hasn’t stopped the club from continuing to revamp its operations off the field in a bid to become, in Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s words, ‘best in class’.

One such change has received full backing from captain Bruno Fernandes, who has predicted great things for them in the future.

Bruno Fernandes lauds Darren Fletcher

Man Utd’s academy has undergone massive changes this summer, a result of the setup succeeding in the youth circuit.

It started with the departure of Adam Lawrence, the U18s manager who oversaw a dominating era of U18 football at Carrington.

Soon after, Nick Cox, the director of the academy and the man credited with revamping the approach at youth level, was poached by Everton for a higher role.

It paved the way for United to appoint Darren Fletcher as the manager of the U18s, a role he takes up after being a part of the first team’s coaching setup for a while.

Fletcher’s appointment has gone down well, and he started off his tenure with a swashbuckling 8-2 win against QPR. He has now received an endorsement from the club captain.

Fernandes wrote about Fletcher on Instagram: “Top class as a person and a well deserved new role that suits him and will bring loads of success to the youth of the club.”

Fletcher’s role comes with huge expectations

Unlike the first team, where Ruben Amorim had a bit of a free hit, at least in 2024/25, Fletcher is taking over a setup that has been dominating the youth circuit.

The need at the U18s level is more about development than results, but the duo of Cox and Lawrence was managing to do both in an equally convincing manner.

United have a precocious crop of youngsters that will need proper guidance on and off the pitch, and as someone who has walked the same path as they hope to, Fletcher is uniquely positioned to help.

He takes on huge expectations because there’s no rebuilding work to be done. It was taken care of by Cox and Co. Instead, he faces the challenge of keeping a good thing going, and if possible, improving on it.

The 8-2 win over QPR is certainly a start, and he clearly has backers at Old Trafford who want him to succeed. The expectations are huge, but there isn’t a better man to try and live up to them.
