Thomas Frank on Brentford's European chances and Wolves' offensive threat in Matheus Cunha

Brentford head coach Thomas Frank has discussed his side's hopes of qualifying for European football next season.

The Bees close their 2024/25 Premier League campaign with an away game against Wolves at Molineux on Sunday (4pm kick-off BST), knowing that a victory could be enough to qualify for next season's UEFA Europa Conference League depending on results elsewhere.

Should Chelsea win the Conference League final against Real Betis next Wednesday and the Blues also finish seventh in the top flight, then eighth place - a spot currently occupied by Brighton, three points ahead of Brentford but with an inferior goal difference - would also gain a place in Europe next term.

Fabian Hürzeler's Seagulls will close their own campaign away at recently-crowned UEFA Europa League champions Tottenham.

"We spoke briefly about [European football] on Tuesday," said Frank.

"Six weeks ago, we said we wanted to finish as high as possible; that was the thing that we could control ourselves, then we still needed to have help from other teams and other results.

"We need to do what we can to win on Sunday. If we win and finish ninth, it will be the joint-best finish in the Premier League.

"Top 10 is a remarkable result for us in the Premier League. We'll do what we can to finish the season with a win and then we'll see what will happen."

Sunday's hosts currently sit 14th in the table, comfortably securing their place in the top flight thanks in no small part to head coach Vítor Pereira, who replaced Gary O'Neil at the helm in December.

"It's going to be another difficult game, they're playing at home and want to finish off the season well," Frank continued.

"Vítor Pereira has done a top job there, there's no doubt about that. I like the way they are set up, they are very structured and difficult to break down.

"They're great on counters and in Matheus Cunha, they have one of the best offensive players in the league. He can do something out of nothing and create a goal, and they still have other threats.

"But we are in a good place as well. We look forward to it and do what we can to finish off our season on a high with hopefully a top performance and three points."
