This summer saw Liam Delap hand disappointment to recruitment chiefs at Old Trafford as he opted for a move to Chelsea over returning to the North West, after spending his formative years at Manchester City.United face Arsenal on the opening weekend of the new Premier League season and face a race against time to bolster their squad before the Gunners visit the Theatre of Dream on August 17.In the North East, the Magpies have had transfer disappointment of their own missing out on; Dean Huijsen, Joao Pedro, James Trafford and Hugo Ekitike.But the transfer saga surrounding Sesko looks set to intensify following the recent reports, the MEN rounds up the latest reports.Newcastle make Benjamin Sesko bidNewcastle have tabled a £65.5million bid for Benjamin Sesko, the Chronicle have reported.Article continues belowClub sources in the North East have confirmed the bid but Lee Ryder adds that Manchester United are not discounted for the race.The Saudi-owned club are said to be intent on achieving their ambition of making Newcastle a regular fixture in the top five but the pursuit of Sesko des not mean Alexander Isak will join Liverpool.The Swede has expressed his desire to leave the Magpies and it has put clubs on red alert with reports suggesting United enquired over his services.Benjamin Sesko considering options amid Man United and Newcastle battleSky Sports' Keith Downie has reported that Sesko is considering his situation with Manchester United at the table.The Manchester Evening News reported this week that United were advancing in a deal to sign the 22-year-old.There were reports from Sesko's home land, Slovenia, late on Friday night which suggested Amorim had been dealt fresh disappointment.In the replies to his initial post, Downie adds that the claims are to a degree premature but Newcastle are in with a chance of signing the RB Leipzig star.Benjamin Sesko reports untrueIn a tweet from Miran Zore, a football editor in Slovenia, Benjamin Sesko has not chosen any club yet.It comes after reports that the RB Leipzig striker chose Newcastle over Manchester United.In a tweet, he claims that Sesko has three options, Leipzig, United and the Magpies but no decision yet - offering Ruben Amorim hope that the club could yet land the striker's signature.It follows a report from Slovenian outlet Delo which suggested that Newcastle have won the race to sign Benjamin Sesko.It has been claimed that the RB Leipzig forward has opted to move to the Magpies despite interest from Manchester United.They add that the move could be between €70m (£61m) and €80m (£69m).Ben Jacobs adds that Newcastle have mad their bid for the forward before striking any agreement with Sesko. On X, formerly Twitter, he wrote: "For clarity: Newcastle pitched financials to Sesko before bidding and these are acceptable, but they do not have a green light to join yet."Eddie Howe makes transfer declarationNewcastle manager Eddie Howe has been given the green light to make a marquee signing but he failed to be drawn on the prospect of signing Sesko.He told reporters on Saturday: "We are looking at the best players we can get."We are only looking at the best we can get, I see all situations open and available to us. I feel that is the only way we are going to get where we want to go, which is to maximise quality over quantity."That is the way it has always been, the way we work, we try to improve, we have don it pretty well to this point."It has been a challenging summer as you know.
