Manchester United tipped to make move for Gianluigi Donnarumma amid £56m update

Manchester United have completed their third signing of the summer in the form of Benjamin Sesko.

The 22-year-old was officially announced on Saturday ahead of their final friendly against Fiorentina. Sesko completed the move from RB Leipzig, signing a five-year deal and snubbing a move to Newcastle United in the process.

But their transfer business is not set to stop there, with the summer transfer window only closing on September 1. Carlos Baleba has emerged as a potential target, but Brighton & Hove Albion have reportedly valued him at £104m.

Elsewhere, The Telegraph has suggested United are still in the market for a defensive midfielder and a goalkeeper before the deadline.

Donnarumma update

ESPN report that Paris Saint-Germain are anticipating offers from United, Chelsea, and Inter Milan for Gianluigi Donnarumma after holding talks with Enzo Raiola, the goalkeeper’s agent.

The French champions, who have signed Lucas Chevalier, are keen to sanction a sale for the Italy international. Donnarumma, who was reportedly open to extending his contract with PSG - which has just one year remaining - struggled to reach an agreement.

Meanwhile, The Telegraph claims the club will look to sign a new goalkeeper having now finalised their pursuit of Sesko.

MEN Sport says: United should definitely consider making a move for Donnarumma, who has extensive experience both domestically and in Europe, having won the Champions League last season, along with delivering outstanding performances in the competition. His leadership and commanding presence could greatly strengthen United’s defence, which has arguably lacked stability since the exit of David De Gea. This feels like the perfect moment to secure a long-term upgrade in goal.

Young Brazilian 'scouted'

Internacional forward Ricardo Mathias has reportedly attracted interest from European clubs following his breakthrough at the Brazilian side. According to Globo Esporte, United sent a representative to scout the 19-year-old during Wednesday’s 1-1 draw with Fluminense in the Brazil Cup.

In addition to the Reds, an unnamed Premier League club has already expressed interest via a formal letter. Prior to this, the Brazilian outlet adds that Mathias was on the radar of PSV, though no talks over a potential transfer took place.

He is under contract until the summer of 2028 and has a €65million (£56m) release clause attached.

MEN Sport says: While signing a young player always carries some risk for clubs, Mathias offers considerable promise with many years of development ahead of him. Given his current release clause is reportedly set at £56m, there’s strong potential for his value to at least double in the coming years if he continues to progress and adapt to European football. So if United’s interest is genuine, investing now could make sense to secure a talented player before his market price skyrockets.
