Alejandro Garnacho was supposed to be the next big thing for Manchester United, but his time appears to be up.What a difference a year can make in football and for Alejandro Garnacho.Since breaking into the team in 2022, Garnacho has broken records held by George Best. The youngster has also been compared to the greats, with his Puskas-winning goal earning comparisons to Eric Cantona. However, despite Garnacho once being praised for his attitude by Erik ten Hag, things have since taken a drastic turn over the past 12 months. This time last year, Garnacho had just scored in the FA Cup final, with the Carrington graduate looking ready to make himself the main man for Erik ten Hag. At Manchester United, however, things rarely go to plan, and Garnacho’s United journey has been downhill since Amorim arrived. Now, Garnacho has been told to leave by Amorim, and as he looks to find a new club in the Premier League, Ineos have set a grand asking price.Photo by Alberto Gardin/Eurasia Sport Images/Getty ImagesBen Jacobs explains Ineos’ £70m asking price for Alejandro GarnachoIt seems a matter of time until the Argentine is gone, with Garnacho not helping himself by wearing an Aston Villa kit in his latest Instagram post.More United NewsFollowing this weekend, it was reported that United had now informed suitors of a £70m asking price for Garnacho. This is something that Ben Jacobs has now discussed, making it clear the demand is a negotiation tactic, while speaking to The United Stand.“People will focus on the number, but it’s not going to be about that number. United wants as much guarantee as possible.“They will start with a very high number, but my expectation is that £60m has always been the so-called asking price.“Hearing a lot of rumours at the moment. It was £60 million in January, and logically, given the situation with Garnacho and Amorim and him telling the player to find a new club, that’s not a number I expect United to hold out for.”It is no shock that £70m isn’t a figure that United will be sticking to, considering Ineos have practically zero negotiating power in the situation.Manchester United have lost all power in Alejandro Garnacho saleUnited left Garnacho out of the home kit launch earlier this month, which all but confirmed the plan to see him depart this summer, although it was already fairly clear. However, by so publicly signalling intention to get rid of Garnacho, Ineos have lost any leg they had to stand on when demanding £70m for the 20-year-old.There are four suitors for Garnacho, and they will all be aware that United have to sell this summer, so the cards are all in the hands of the buying clubs. Not only this, but the United signing of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo for a lower price shows that Garnacho isn’t worth £70m. The replacements signed also prove that he isn’t needed, providing another boost for buying clubs. In the future, if United are looking to sell a big name, hopefully, they can keep it under wraps and not so blatantly obvious.
