Teammates Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja engaged in hilarious banter as the Indian team celebrated the anniversary of their 2024 T20 World Cup triumph in Birmingham.

In a video shared by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the staff can be seen bringing in two cakes with icing of ‘Team India’ and ‘Champions Of T20 WC 2024’ respectively. Skipper Shubman Gill, who wasn’t part of the tournament, urged Mohammed Siraj forward and called for Yashasvi Jaiswal, as others pushed Arshdeep Singh — who was India’s best bowler alongside Jasprit Bumrah — to cut the cake.

Eventually, Arshdeep took a step back and Bumrah, who was reminded of his Player of the Series award, and Siraj cut the cakes. The players shared bites with each other and Pant jumped in hilariously, with him, Bumrah and Siraj telling Jadeja that they were also celebrating one year of his retirement. The all-rounder was quick to remind the wicketkeeper that he had only hung up his boots in one format, causing further laughter.

Jadeja had a difficult time at the World Cup, but India’s balance was strong enough not to let it affect their spotless campaign. The left-arm spinner called time on his T20 career alongside Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

While the latter two also retired from Tests in May, Jadeja has continued to play in the format. That’s despite several rumors saying that he was close to departing from at least one of the Tests and ODIs.

While Pant was India’s best player in the first Test against England at Headingley, India will hope for better contributions from Jadeja and Siraj in the second Test, which begins at Edgbaston on Wednesday (July 2). That’s especially because there’s doubt over Bumrah playing the match in light of his workload concerns.

Sunday was a rest day for the team in England. They will reportedly participate in an extensive session on Monday before taking another slightly lighter day on Tuesday to get ready for the match.
