Liverpool are beginning to get serious about moving some players out this summer. The Reds have so far been focused on bolstering the squad, bringing in three excellent signings ahead of the new campaign. However, Liverpool are running low on non-homegrown spots and could do with trimming things down. There are certainly saleable assets within the Liverpool squad, with Darwin Nunez seen as one whose time at Anfield could be coming to a close. As Rousing The Kop revealed on Saturday, Nunez has his heart set on a move to Napoli and has informed the Liverpool hierarchy of his decision. With the Reds keen to adhere to the player’s wishes, journalist Fabrizio Romano has detailed what happened when the two clubs set up a meeting to discuss Nunez’s sale earlier this week.Photo by Michael Regan/Getty Images/Getty Images For The Premier LeagueNothing resolved during Darwin Nunez meetingIt has been clear for some time that Nunez will be leaving Liverpool this summer. However, with three years left on his contract, the Reds are not going to simply give him away.As Napoli look to build on their Scudetto success of last season, they have emerged as the team most likely to sign Nunez.MORE LIVERPOOL STORIESBut, as Romano reveals on his Italian language YouTube channel, the Neapolitans and Liverpool are still some way off finding an agreement on a transfer fee.“I can guarantee you 100 per cent that Darwin Nunez would be very happy to go to Napoli. The project, the coach, the city, Italian football,” he explains.READ MORE: Bad news for Liverpool fans as ‘gut feeling’ on Ibrahima Konate revealed“During the week, Napoli had direct contact with Liverpool, even a meeting, and in these contacts at the moment they have not yet come close to agreeing on the figures.“Liverpool’s demands remain very important, between 65 and 70 million Euros [£55-60m] minimum as a starting point. Napoli start further back, so at the moment agreements are not close yet for Nunez. It is not close or imminent and requires slow and steady progress.“It is also clear that Napoli must match the numbers on Nunez’s salary,” Romano adds. “Even on this we are not yet at the finish line. But the player is available, and this can certainly help.”How low will Liverpool go for Nunez?Although Liverpool are right to stick to their guns over a fee for Nunez, there does come a point where they are going to have to compromise. The 26-year-old is so clearly finished at the club that a scenario where he is still in the squad at the start of the season is simply unthinkable. As a result, as long as Napoli are willing to meet them in the middle, it feels probable that an agreement can be reached. In our opinion, £55m is not an unreasonable fee for anyone in this deal, but if Napoli are not willing to go quite that high, then Liverpool should not really fall below £50m.If the Serie A champions continue to hold out, then the Reds will just have to cross everything and hope that Saudi Arabia still see an appeal in their No. 9.
