After Christopher Nkunku interest, Liverpool could make surprise move for different £32m Chelsea star

Liverpool have been consistently linked with Chelsea’s Christopher Nkunku in recent months.

Since his switch from RB Leipzig in 2023, Christopher Nkunku perhaps hasn’t had the opportunities he imagined at Chelsea.

And given that Nkunku is such a talented player, that has led to interest from other Premier League clubs, including Liverpool.

Chelsea are ready to sell Nkunku this summer, and it remains to be seen if he’ll remain in England or head abroad, possibly even to Bayern Munich back in the Bundesliga.

But irrespective of Nkunku’s future, Liverpool might make a move for a different Chelsea forward this summer.

Richard Hughes might inspire a shock Liverpool move for Nicolas Jackson

Aside from Liverpool’s interest in Alexander Isak, The Athletic are now reporting that the Reds could show interest in Nicolas Jackson owing to sporting director Richard Hughes.

Liverpool are interested in signing a striker this summer and Jackson was a player Hughes liked when he was at Bournemouth, according to the report.

In fact, in 2023 shortly before Jackson signed for Chelsea, it was reported by BBC Sport that Bournemouth had agreed a deal to sign the Villarreal forward.

Hughes was still working for The Cherries at the time, and therefore there’s seemingly good evidence that the now Liverpool chief is a fan.

Jackson obviously ended up joining Chelsea instead of Bournemouth, but the 24-year-old could be available once again this summer.

Chelsea feel as if they’ve given Jackson enough chances and they have recruited impressive pair Liam Delap and Joao Pedro this summer.

Pedro in particular was exceptional during Chelsea’s successful Club World Cup campaign, and chances could now be very limited for Jackson at Stamford Bridge.

Nicolas Jackson’s agents have been exploring options to leave Chelsea

Of course, there would still be a long way to go before Jackson potentially joined a Premier League rival like Liverpool.

But TBR Football understands that Jackson’s camp have been contacting clubs about a potential move away from Chelsea.

Jackson’s agents are concerned about his situation at Chelsea, and they are exploring the options that could be available to the striker.

Jackson cost Chelsea £32m when he signed from Villarreal in 2023, and the west Londoners are bound to demand a sizable profit on that figure now.

But as Liverpool proved in their pursuit of Florian Wirtz, they are ready to spend big on the right player.

A fascinating situation, and whilst Liverpool don’t seem close to making a move for Jackson just yet per se, it could be a transfer to keep an eye on.
