London City Lionesses are one point away from history.

A freshly formed women’s football side in 2019, following its breakaway from Millwall, the Championship club are now on the cusp of promotion to the Women’s Super League.

Their journey to this point has not been without its challenges, but since being acquired by multi-team owner Michele Kang in 2023, the tide has turned in their favour.

As the majority owner of the Washington Spirit and Lyon, the entrepreneur is well-versed in what it takes to run a successful outfit; the Lionesses are next on the list to benefit from her leadership experience.

From investment in resources to bringing star-studded names to the second tier, promotion at the end of the season will be one step closer to their dream of becoming the best team in England.

It will all come down to one game. The stakes have never been higher, coming up against title rivals Birmingham in the final clash of the campaign on Sunday (4 May).

Their meeting is effectively a winner-takes-all situation, though one point would be enough to secure safe passage to tier one.
