National Games, day 5: Coleman Wong makes winning start, and Haughey’s in control

On Friday, Hong Kong’s men get to do something they haven’t really had a chance at doing in the past several years, and that’s play in a meaningful game of rugby sevens in front of their home fans.

The rather desperate Melrose Claymores competition that arose from the rubble of a demolished HSBC SVNS Series barely registers every April, so the National Games gold medal clash against Shandong tonight is a welcome return to serious sport.

There is plenty going on as we reach the end of the first official week of the Games, with Siobhan Haughey back in the pool in the semi-finals of the women’s 100 metres freestyle and more medals up for grabs at the Velodrome.

It’s day five here in the Greater Bay Area, so follow us for live coverage of all the evening’s action.
