Lucy Bronze named as England women's player of the year

Thousands of fans cast their votes to name Lucy Bronze as the England Women’s Player of the Year 2024–25, connected by EE.

In a historic year for the Lionesses, Bronze was voted by fans as the standout player, finishing ahead of Chloe Kelly and Hannah Hampton, who placed second and third respectively.

The defender, who played a pivotal role in England’s UEFA EURO 2025 victory this summer, made 16 appearances - 15 of which were starts - for the Lionesses throughout the 2024–25 season, finding the net five times and making an abundance of crucial defensive and attacking contributions.

Two unforgettable moments came during the quarter-final victory against Sweden, as her 79th minute header got England back into contention and her decisive penalty in the shootout earned a place in the last four. She played 106 minutes in the Final victory against Spain, that saw the Lionesses make history and earn back-to-back EURO wins.

Bronze was presented the award by Georgia Stanway in front of the Lionesses players and staff at St. George’s Park, with Stanway praising Bronze’s leadership and impact on the team.

Thanking the fans for their support, Bronze said: "I wasn’t expecting it but it’s always nice to get recognition, especially from England fans. I adore playing for England and I have put my heart and soul into every game over the last 12 years. In that respect, it’s a huge honour and especially after such a crazy year with the EUROs. I’m very proud.

“For me, 2015 was a real starting point as an England player; 2019, I feel like that’s when I was hitting my peak as an individual, but this year has been something that I couldn’t have imagined. The way we won the EUROs, the noise around it and women’s football in general this year has been out of this world.”

England are preparing for a run of international fixtures as part of their ‘Homecoming Series’ kicking off with a match against Brazil at the City of Manchester Stadium on Saturday 25 October.

The Lionesses will then make a first visit to Pride Park, home of Derby County FC, to face Australia on Tuesday 28 October. The series continues with two further matches in November against China at Wembley Stadium, connected by EE, and Ghana in Southampton. Tickets for all four matches are still available.
