Photo Credit: FS1Kevin Durant has made it clear in recent months that he doesn’t believe ex-NFL players turned media members should be sharing their opinions on the NBA. So when FS1’s Emmanuel Acho shared his “Legacy Formula” determining the greatness of past and present NBA players, it didn’t take long for Durant to blast him publicly.Discussing Durant being traded to the Houston Rockets over the weekend on Monday’s edition of The Facility, Acho shared his “Legacy Formula,” which takes the number of championships a player has won and divides that by the number of teams a player has played for.Durant, who is now on his fifth team after his recent trade, obviously ranks quite low on this list in comparison to some of his peers like Stephen Curry and Kobe Bryant, who won all of their championships on one team. And in Acho’s eyes, this is an indictment of Durant’s ability to “bring a championship to him” instead of seeking one out elsewhere.“The number of championships you win by the teams you played for, to me, is your legacy. Now, KD, two championships, but he has been on five teams at this junction in time. Your legacy is dependent on how many championships you win and how many teams did you have to play on to do it. The more you travel, the more you water down your legacy. Just because the current culture suggests that players move around ain’t mean that’s what it is supposed to be. Because Jokić ain’t moving around, Giannis ain’t moving around, Steph ain’t moving around.”“Now, to Shady’s point, and he made a beautiful one, how can you fault KD for going to get something, a championship? I’m not faulting him for going to go get it. I’m faulting him because he can’t bring it to him. That’s why he is going to go get it. You only go and get it because it won’t come to you. Shai brought a championship to him. Giannis brought a championship to him. Jokić brought a championship to him. But because KD can’t bring a championship to him, that’s why he has to go get it.“He tried to go get it in Brooklyn, he tried to go get it in Phoenix, now he is gonna go get it in Houston. But if you can bring it to you, you wouldn’t have to go get it. So I’m faulting KD… Simply suggesting, not even faulting, that his legacy is watered down. How many chips did you win? And how many teams did you play on to do it? That is your legacy.”LEGACY FORMULA: Championships won ÷ Teams played for = Player Legacy Rings Teams Score Steph: 4 1 4.0 Bron: 4 3 1.3 KD: 2 5* 0.4 highest value is greatestpic.twitter.com/npRZNxlQtb — Emmanuel Acho (@EmmanuelAcho) June 23, 2025For as great as Acho thinks his formula is, it obviously only takes two factors into account. Durant’s league MVP, two NBA Finals MVPs, 15 All-Star selections, and four scoring titles simply mean nothing to his legacy, according to Acho.Understandably, Durant pushed back against Acho’s “formula,” questioning why the FS1 analyst, who played just two years in the NFL, is questioning anyone’s legacy.“According to The Great Kevin Durant’s legacy formula that was created in the best labs at MIT, Emmanuel is the worst linebacker of all time,” joked Durant in a post on X. “You sure you wanna listen to this guy about greatness?”According to The Great Kevin Durant’s legacy formula that was created in the best labs at MIT, Emmanuel is the worst linebacker of all time. You sure you wanna listen to this guy about greatness? — Kevin Durant (@KDTrey5) June 23, 2025This is far from Durant’s first run-in on social media with Acho, calling him a “hot take artist” just last month and to “stay in his lane” when he talks about basketball. As Durant suggested, in an ideal world, someone like Acho would strictly discuss football and leave the NBA legacy debates to former NBA players. But in today’s day and age in sports media, where former athletes are serving as show co-hosts discussing any and all happenings across all mainstream sports, Acho and many other former athletes have been put in positions to discuss sports that they may not have the most expertise in.
