Alexander Isak sent clear message by Liverpool legend ahead of potential transfer, 'you can't'

Liverpool want to lure Alexander Isak away from Newcastle United, and the striker has now been sent advice from a Reds legend.

Liverpool have bid for Alexander Isak of Newcastle United this summer on the back of what has already been a productive transfer window for the current champions.

Said bid was swiftly rejected, and while the Reds are now assessing their transfer options, Isak remains their dream signing, as TBR Football revealed last week.

Magpies legend Alan Shearer has shared his feelings on the Newcastle striker wanting a Liverpool transfer already.

Now, one of the Premier League champions’ former players has been discussing the Swede this week.

Liverpool legend Mark Lawrenson message to Alexander Isak

Mark Lawrenson played over 200 games for Liverpool, picking up 13 trophies during his stint with the club.

The former defender played with some all-time greats, including Kenny Dalglish and Ian Rush.

Now, speaking to talkSPORT, Lawrenson has sent a clear message to Isak should he move to Liverpool.

When discussing a possible transfer, host Jeff Stelling mentioned how the Newcastle forward would be following in the footsteps of players like Dalglish and Rush.

But Lawrenson responded by urging Isak not to do so, saying that it ‘can’t’ be done.

He said: “I think the best thing is maybe not to try and follow them. You can’t follow Kenny. Kenny is the best player Liverpool have ever had. Stevie G comes as second, but Kenny was a genius.”

Robbie Fowler’s Alexander Isak verdict

Away from Dalglish, Liverpool have had plenty more prolific attackers grace their pitch over the years.

Among those was Robbie Fowler, who scored 183 goals in 369 matches for the Reds.

Fowler has shared his verdict on Isak potentially joining Liverpool, and was full of praise for the Swedish international.

He said: “As a Liverpool fan, we would all love to see him, wouldn’t we?

“When you look at the Premier League and the goals he scored last year, the types of goals and his performances, he was phenomenal. Hopefully, he can carry that on, and hopefully it will be at Liverpool.

“If you were to pick one player from the Premier League last year who you would have wanted to sign for Liverpool, he would probably be on 90 per cent of people’s lips.

“We probably needed that pivotal striker on the pitch last season. He could be the difference if he were to come.”
