Manchester United remain interested in a potential summer move for Victor Osimhen this summer but are concerned about splashing out around £60million for his services, it has been claimed.

Osimhen, 26, has spent the 2024/25 season on loan at Galatasaray after he failed to secure a permanent transfer from Napoli last summer. During his time in Turkey, he has scored 31 goals in 36 matches.

However, Osimhen is expected to return to Napoli at the end of the season. He is under contract until 2026 and is anticipated to leave the Naples club for good in the summer transfer window.

As it stands, Osimhen has a £62.1m release clause, and Napoli would like that to be met. The Nigerian has netted 76 times in 133 games for Gli Azzurri since his move from Lille in 2020.

While United are still keen on getting a deal done, they remain concerned about such a significant lay-out on one player, like a move for Osimhen would demand, according to TBR Football.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his team are keen to learn from the club's recent failures in the transfer market and are keeping in mind that Osimhen would take up a huge chunk of their budget.

But if Napoli's demands are deemed excessive, Osimhen would be willing to play out his contract and leave the club on a free transfer next summer.

United are not the only team that are interested in a move for Osimhen. Chelsea are another that have been credited with an interest for the ex-Charleroi and Lille man.

Blues legend John Obi Mikel, who was Osimhen's teammate in the Nigeria national team, issued his verdict on the forward's future in an interview with beIN Sports on the weekend.

Mikel said: "He (Osimhen) wants to play for Chelsea. I hope [he'll be playing] somewhere in the Premier League. I know where we stopped in terms of the contract, I know where we are. It's an easy fix, because we've done all the hard work last summer. It's so easy to just pick it up and then the deal is done.

"This guy does what he does best, scores goals, and that's what we've lacked this season. We don’t score enough, and that’s why we’re where we are today. With Osimhen, that's what he does."
