Pep Guardiola plans to take a break when he eventually leaves Manchester City and says he isn't sure if he would later return to management.

Guardiola's contract was due to expire at the end of this season, but he signed an extension in November and will stay through to June 2027, completing more than a decade in charge.

Although the agreement brought to an end any doubt over his immediate future, he has yet to decide if he wants to continue as a manager in two years' time.

"After my contract with City, I'm going to stop. I am sure. I don't know if I'm going to retire, but I'm going to take a break," Guardiola told ESPN Brasil, speaking ahead of tonight's crucial Premier League home match against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

"How I want to be remembered, I don't know. I want people to remember me however they want.

"All coaches want to win so we can have a memorable job, but I believe that the fans of Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Manchester City have had fun watching my teams play.

"I don't think we should ever live thinking about whether we're going to be remembered.

"When we die, our families cry for two or three days and then that's it, you're forgotten. In the careers of coaches, there are good and bad ones, the important thing is that the good ones are remembered for longer.

"I'll tell you that the most important thing is not what people think of you. After all, our lives as footballers have been very good. There are new challenges as a coach. I don't know what will happen in the future and in the end that doesn't matter."

Pep's incredible trophy haul

Guardiola has won 18 major trophies in his eight full seasons at City so far, including six Premier League titles and the UEFA Champions League.

The latter was achieved in the club's historic Treble-winning season of 2022/23.

He is hoping to add to his incredible collection of silverware when Man City face Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final on Saturday 17 May.

Haaland nearing injury return

Guardiola confirmed tonight's match against Wolves - a significant one in their bid to secure Champions League football - will come too soon for Erling Haaland, who has returned to training after an ankle injury sustained at AFC Bournemouth.

He also provided a positive update on Rodri, who is recovering from the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury he sustained against Arsenal in September.

"We are really pleased Erling is back, and Rodri is back, in the training sessions," Guardiol said in his press conference.

"The moment the physio and doctor say that Rodri can start to play minutes, he will start to play minutes. But the doctors have to tell me.

"It was a difficult injury. It was seven months to eleven months [out of action] more or less, the doctors said.

"He feels really good. Every day he’s making sessions, but we have to make the step to avoid him making a step backwards and being injured again.

"That’s why you need to be careful. What is important is [he has] one training session and then another one, and every time he feels better and better. When the doctor says Rodri is stable and he can play, after that he is going to come back."
