“Miami doesn’t need Neymar” - Lionel Messi-led Inter Miami urged to sign Barcelona star instead of Brazilian superstar

Former US footballer Taylor Twellman has urged Lionel Messi-led Inter Miami to sign Barcelona superstar Robert Lewandowski instead of Neymar. The Brazilian superstar has often been linked to a move to join his former teammates Messi and Luis Suarez in the MLS.

Robert Lewandowski continues to remain at the top of his game despite being on the wrong side of his thirties. The Poland international is still the number one striker at Lionel Messi's former club, Barcelona, with his contract set to expire at the end of this season. The Catalans are reportedly not willing to renew his contract, with Lewandowski set to find another destination in June 2026.

In an interview on Apple TV, former US footballer Taylor Twellman urged Inter Miami to sign Robert Lewandowski instead of Neymar. His comments came amid reports linking the Brazilian to a potential move to join the Herons this season. Twellman said (via Barca Blaugranes):

"Miami doesn’t need Neymar and I’m not sure they will want him. Lewandowski is a player they should go after while trying to get more mobile & younger."

Meanwhile, Neymar's current contract at Santos ends in December 2025. His future is open, with the option to renew at his boyhood side or reportedly move to Inter Miami. However, his current form could be a cause for concern for the Lionel Messi-led side.

As of now, Robert Lewandowski's future is also uncertain as Barcelona still do not have a steady replacement for him in place. Ferran Torres is usually employed as a backup in the Pole's absence, but remains inconsistent in his performance.

When Neymar made feelings clear on joining former Barcelona teammates Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez at Inter Miami

In an interview with CNN Sport in January this year, Neymar was asked about a potential reunion with Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez at Inter Miami. The Brazilian superstar joining the MLS side could recreate the iconic 'MSN' trio from Barcelona. Neymar kept his options open and said (via GOAL):

"Obviously, playing again with Messi and Suarez would be incredible. They are my friends. We still speak to each other. It would be interesting to revive this trio. (...) Who knows. Football is full of surprises."

Earlier this month, Lionel Messi renewed his contract with Inter Miami, valid until 2028. If Neymar continues to play, he could have some time to join the Argentine in the MLS. However, his form and fitness continue to remain a problem with recurring injuries ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

Meanwhile, Barcelona will be keen on reviving their glory from last season by winning big in the current season as well. Robert Lewandowski is expected to be an integral part of their campaign this season, and further details about his future are awaited.
