Gerard Pique fires back at Espanyol boss Manolo Gonzalez for Lamine Yamal criticism after Barcelona win

Barcelona legend Gerard Pique has hit back at Espanyol boss Manolo Gonzalez after he criticised Lamine Yamal and the decision to send off Leandro Cabrera in Thursday’s Catalan derby.

Cabrera was shown a straight red card for hitting out at Yamal, causing Gonzalez to tell the teenager after the match to “stop diving.”

Gonzalez also said: “It’s a blow that, to fall to the ground like that, you have to do it well, right? We already know that on the other side of Diagonal they’ve handled the drama pretty well for years.

“You blow on them and they fall quickly. It’s an action that, damn it, we’re ruining football. Is it avoidable? Absolutely, but it’s not worth falling to the ground, or hurting anyone, or getting sent off.”

Perhaps unsurprisingly, his comments drew a strong reaction from Pique.

He replied: “The other side of Diagonal? Sorry, but you left the city years ago. Barcelona is Blaugrana. A big hug.”

It’s not the only message Pique sent out after the win. He also delighted in Barcelona’s 2-0 victory that delivered the league title to go along with Copa del Rey and Super Cup wins this season.
