Brentford chief lays down gauntlet to Ineos amid Bryan Mbeumo’s Man Utd transfer desire, 'he has his ideas'

Manchester United continue to chase Bryan Mbeumo and will hope to sign the Brentford forward early in July.

July is here, and Manchester United’s transfer business should ramp up this month.

Matheus Cunha has joined United from Wolverhampton Wanderers, but he will not be the only attacking addition.

United hope to sign Bryan Mbeumo in the coming days, having identified the Brentford star as a key target.

The Cameroonian is likely to join Cunha in supporting a centre forward in Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 system, but he will not come cheap.

The PSR accounting deadline has now passed, and United may have more freedom to go and strike a deal for Mbeumo early in the month.

Brentford chief on Bryan Mbeumo to Manchester United

Brentford have lost manager Thomas Frank to Tottenham Hotspur and are set to lose experienced midfielder Christian Norgaard to Arsenal.

Seeing Mbeumo leave as well won’t be easy, but United are persevering with a move and will expect him to join.

Bees director of football Phil Giles suggested Mbeumo could stay and that Brentford would be happy to keep hold of him.

Giles has also spoken to BBC Sport, claiming that there simply hasn’t been much progress on a deal with United.

Giles claims Brentford have received ‘big interest’ in Mbeumo, which was expected after another great Premier League campaign.

The Bees chief added that Mbeumo ‘has his ideas’ about where he wants to move next, with all signs pointing towards United being his top choice.

Brentford appear to be aware of that stance, though Giles again reiterated that Mbeumo could yet stay in London.

“There’s not so much [progress with Mbeumo],” said Giles. “He had a fantastic season, we expected big interest in him, we have had big interest in him.

“He has his ideas about where he wants to take his career, of course he does – he is well within his rights to do that.

“It is not impossible he is still a Brentford player next season if we agree he is going to stay. It has to be the right deal for Brentford, any club will tell you that. If it’s not the right deal, why would we do it?

“He is certainly one of our best players, if not our best player, and we need our best players. There’s no harm in keeping your best players,” he added.

Brentford lay down the gauntlet to Ineos

United come back for pre-season training on July 7, now less than a week away.

Amorim will surely want Mbeumo snapped up for the start of pre-season training or very early into the preparations.

The pressure is on Ineos to get the deal done, and Giles has certainly laid down the gauntlet with his comments.

Giles publicly admitted that there had been little progress on a deal with United, before then suggesting ‘big interest’ from other clubs.

As if that wasn’t enough, Giles then talked up the chance of Mbeumo going nowhere if United cannot come up with the right offer.

Mbeumo wants the move to Manchester, and while Brentford may still be angling for a bidding war, United simply cannot afford to let this deal slip away and must make serious progress this week.
