Jaiswal has thus marked his first ever Test innings in England with a century.

Gill, meanwhile, has blazed his way past fifty in what is his first knock as India’s Test captain. Their stand has ensured that England couldn’t build on the momentum they got towards the end of the first session when Brydon Carse and Ben Stokes dismissed KL Rahul and Sai Sudharsan in consecutive overs.
