Liverpool will face Crystal Palace this weekend in the quest for the season's first piece of silverware, the Community Shield. It comes as Oliver Glasner has sent a clear message before the showdown.

The Reds, who haven't lifted the trophy in three years, will take on last season's FA Cup winners at Wembley Stadium on Sunday. Last season, Liverpool dominated the Premier League under the guidance of Arne Slot, finishing a clear 10 points ahead of the pack in his debut campaign at Anfield.

On the other hand, Glasner's Crystal Palace made history when Eberechi Eze's goal clinched a 1-0 victory over Manchester City in the FA Cup final, marking their first-ever major trophy win.

As a result, this Sunday's showdown at Wembley will mark Palace's first appearance in the annual fixture, which has been a mainstay of the football calendar in various forms for nearly 120 years.

This is in stark contrast to Slot's side, who have hoisted the Community Shield 16 times, with their most recent triumph coming in 2022 when they bested City. Only Manchester United (21) and Arsenal (17) have won the trophy more times.

However, despite the anticipation from both sets of fans to see their teams compete on Sunday, they won't be able to watch the match on free-to-air TV due to a significant change announced for this year's game.

ITV, which has had a long-standing relationship with the Community Shield, has now lost the broadcasting rights to the match.

The broadcast of the match has been moved to a subscription platform, with live and exclusive coverage on TNT Sports and discovery+.

Supporters can watch on TNT Sport 1 from 2pm GMT for pre-match build-up, with kick-off at 3pm GMT and coverage concluding by 6pm GMT.

In the United States, the game can be watched on ESPN+ with kickoff at 10am ET.

Prior to this weekend's fixture, the FA issued a statement confirming the change in broadcasters.

"The 2025 FA Community Shield match will be contested by the 2024-25 Emirates FA Cup winners, Crystal Palace, and 2024-25 Premier League champions, Liverpool," the announcement detailed.

"The game will take place at Wembley Stadium connected by EE on Sunday 10 August. It will be broadcast live and exclusively on TNT Sports 1, with kick-off at 3pm BST."

This alteration arrives more than a year after ITV was reported to be relinquishing their rights to broadcast live FA Cup matches from the 2025/26 season.

Under a new deal, the BBC will become the free-to-air broadcaster for the prestigious cup competition, showing 14 live games, whilst TNT Sports will also screen matches.
