The heroics of former Girona and Sevilla goalkeeper Bono helped Morocco reach the World Cup semi-finals in 2022 and he was even more valiant here against Manchester City.

The 34-year-old made a string of saves - totalling 10 - to ensure Al-Hilal clung on in the contest.

Bono denied Savinho and Ilkay Gundogan from close range in the first half, before showing sharp reflexes to tip Josko Gvardiol's header over the crossbar.

After the break, with time running out in a thoroughly entertaining contest, Manuel Akanji flicked a header against the post and Erling Haaland saw his follow-up effort sensationally cleared off the line by Ali Lajami.

Former City full-back Joao Cancelo was involved in both of Al-Hilal's opening goals.

And it will be a game that 22-year-old front man Marcos Leonardo will always remember after scoring twice.
