Man United icon Sir David Beckham supports Gary Neville after emotional family message

Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville penned an emotional message to his late dad Neville Neville on Father's Day

Sir David Beckham has sent his support to his good friend and former Manchester United teammate Gary Neville after he paid tribute to his late father Neville Neville on Father's Day.

Neville Snr passed away in 2015 after suffering a heart attack while supporting Gary's sister Tracey at the Netball World Cup in Australia. The passionate cricketer represented his sons Gary and Phil during their football careers and he also played a leading role in the campaign to save Bury FC, after he held a position on the Board of Directors at Gigg Lane when the Shakers were in the Football League.

This Sunday is Father's Day in the UK and this afternoon Neville took time out to post a tribute to his father on Instagram. Sharing a picture of himself with his dad and his daughters following his testimonial for the Reds in 2011, the current Sky Sports pundit and co-owner of Salford City, wrote: "Miss you Dad so much.

"You have no idea how much I would love you to see the kids again." As one of his best friends and fellow co-owner of Salford City, Beckham sent a message of support to Neville.

"We all miss Big Nev," Beckham wrote before tagging Gary, Phil and Tracey in the response. The former United captain has spoken previously about the shock of losing his dad and the pain he feels to this day.

Previously on the Steven Bartlett podcast, Neville explained how he used to speak to his dad daily for advice on his career and personal life. Meanwhile, Neville's friendship with Beckham, who became a knight of the realm this week in the King's Birthday Honours, goes beyond football with the former defender having been best man at the wedding of David and Victoria Beckham.
