Coco Gauff stormed into the final four at the 2025 Madrid Open.

The USA tennis star defeated seventh seed Mirra Andreeva 7-5, 6-1 in the quarter-finals in the Spanish capital on Wednesday (30 April), saving two set points in the process.

The two youngest athletes in the top 10 of the WTA world rankings, Gauff aged 21 and Andreeva turning 18 this week, met for the first time since the 2023 US Open, where the former went on to claim her maiden Grand Slam crown.

Andreeva broke Gauff in the opening game amid several unforced errors, and with the American's deep forehands lacking consistency, the teenager defended four break points before Gauff broke back.

With little between the pair in the first set, Andreeva found a vital break at 4-4 and served for what would have been only her second career set against the world number four.
