Victoria Mboko closed out her breakthrough season in style, claiming the WTA 250 Hong Kong Open title with a 5-7, 7-6(9), 6-2 victory over Spain’s Cristina Bucsa.

The 19-year-old Canadian sensation, who stunned the tennis world earlier this year by winning the WTA 1000 Canadian Open, sealed her second career title with another impressive display of determination and composure.

The Hong Kong event, one of the final stops of the season, offered Mboko a chance to rediscover her rhythm after a bumpy stretch following her Montreal triumph. She defeated Talia Gibson, Alexandra Eala, Anna Kalinskaya, and compatriot Leylah Fernandez on her way to the final. With this win, Mboko rises to a career-high No.18 in the WTA rankings, confirming her place among the sport’s rising elite.

For Bucsa, the week marked a milestone of her own. The 27-year-old Spaniard reached her first WTA final after a strong run that included wins over Emiliana Arango and Maya Joint and a walkover past top seed Belinda Bencic. Her effort in Hong Kong propels her to a new career-best ranking of No.53, capping a season highlighted by a quarter-final run at the US Open.

Mboko’s ascent from World No.337 at the start of the year to the top 20 by its end is a trajectory that positions her as one of the brightest prospects in women’s tennis heading into 2026.
