Irish referee Rob Hennessy will take charge of the Under-19 European Championship final between Spain and the Netherlands on Thursday night (kick-off 8pm).

The League of Ireland official has impressed UEFA officials in the tournament to date and has already officiated both finalists.

He took charge of Spain's 3-1 win over Romania last week and the Netherlands' thrilling 4-2 win against England last Friday.

Most recently, Hennessy served as the fourth official for Spain's dramatic 6-5 semi-final triumph over Germany on Monday night.

He will be accompanied by fellow Irish assistant referee Christopher Campbell at the Giulesti Stadium in Bucharest, with Austrian official Michael Obritzberger running the other line

"It's fantastic to see Irish officials operating at the highest levels of European football," said FAI League of Ireland referee manager Eddie Foley.

"Rob and Christopher's involvement in this final showcases the clear pathway that exists for our referees, progressing from grassroots football right up through the League of Ireland and onto the international stage."
