Sporting Clube de Portugal's vice-president Francisco Salgado Zenha has delivered a significant update on the future of Viktor Gyokeres amid Arsenal's interest.

The Swedish forward is rumoured to be eyeing a switch to the Premier League after a couple of seasons in Lisbon, with a £60million fee seemingly enough to secure his departure.

Manchester United have also been monitoring the goalscorer since Ruben Amorim took charge at Old Trafford in November, but their focus has now shifted to finalising a deal for Matheus Cunha.

Meanwhile, the Gunners can tempt the Swede with the prospect of Champions League football next term.

Speaking at a press conference held by Radio Renascenca's Bola Branca, Salgado Zenha addressed Sporting's transfer window strategy and was inevitably faced questions about Gyokeres.

He stated: "Gyokeres? He has three more years on his contract.

"At the moment, there are no offers. He has three more years on his contract. I think the answer has been given."

Regarding the club's transfer ambitions, Salgado Zenha added: "It's not going to be different from last year. We want to keep the best players and retain talent.

"We want to continue being champions and having competitive teams and to fight on all fronts."

Yet, Correio da Manha reported on Tuesday that Arsenal had sent representatives to Lisbon to negotiate with Gyokeres' agent over a potential transfer.

Despite speculation over his future, the forward remained non-committal after lifting the Portuguese Cup, stating: "Let's see, it's football and we never know what might happen.

"To say something concrete is impossible."

He also addressed the rumours linking him with a move to Arsenal, saying: "I don't know anything [about Arsenal's interest].

"I tried to remain focussed in the last games. If anything is true, we'll see."

While a stay at Sporting seems very unlikely, both his uncle and girlfriend have clearly expressed their preference for him to stay with the club.
