Liverpool have submitted a bid for Alexander IsakLiverpool have reportedly seen an official bid for Alexander Isak rejected by Newcastle United. The striker went AWOL last month and hasn't been involved in Newcastle's pre-season tour of Asia, instead opting to train with former club Real Sociedad. Isak is said to be sold on a move to the Premier League champions, who have already welcomed the likes of Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong and Hugo Ekitike this summer. Personal terms aren't expected to pose any problems, but Liverpool's biggest hurdle will likely be getting Newcastle to agree on a deal. However, an official bid is said to have fallen way short of Newcastle's £150m valuation, with the North East-based outfit rejecting Liverpool's approach. Liverpool are said to be preparing a second offer, which is expected to arrive in Newcastle's inbox over the next couple of days. The Merseysider's position could be strengthened by the fact Isak wants out of St. James' Park and has just two years left on his deal.Read more: Liverpool can trigger Alexander Isak release clause if Newcastle reach agreementAlexander Isak hasn't played in any of Newcastle's pre-season matchesWhen asked about Isak's future, Newcastle boss Eddie Howe replied: "He is still our player. He's contracted to us. We, to a degree, control what is next for him. I would love to believe all possibilities are still available to us. My wish is that he stays, but that's not in my full control. We have not received a formal offer for Alex, from any club. My wish is that he stays and we see him playing again next year." Liverpool have until September 1 to get deals across the line, but should they secure Isak's signature before the second weekend of the season, the Swede could be in line for an awkward Magpies reunion. That's because Newcastle will welcome Liverpool to St. James' Park for their first home game of the campaign.Newcastle have been linked to several Isak replacements, including RB Leipzig ace Benjamin Sesko. However, the 2025 League Cup winners are fearful that Manchester United, who don't have European football of any kind to offer next season, have beaten them to his signature. It's reported that Newcastle's transfer chiefs believe INEOS have won the race to sign Sesko, who was also linked to Arsenal earlier this summer. Yoane Wissa has also been mooted as a potential option, but much like Newcastle with Isak, Brentford are standing firm on their current valuation.Read Next
