Patrice Evra makes Manchester United comparison after Juventus sack Igor Tudor

Patrice Evra has questioned the Juventus squad following the sacking of Igor Tudor just 24 matches into his reign as manager, drawing comparisons from his time at Manchester United.

There has been a lot of managerial uncertainty at Manchester United since Sir Alex Ferguson retired. Many have tried to restore the club to its former glories, but none have been able to deliver the Premier League title.

Ruben Amorim has faced heavy criticism in his first 11 months as United head coach, although results are improving with the Red Devils currently on a three-match win streak. United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe gave Amorim his public backing last month after a slow start to the 2025/26 season.

Ineos want stability, and leading figures believe Amorim deserves more time at Old Trafford. Nobody will disagree with that if United keep winning football matches.

Ratcliffe’s backing rubbished reports that United were considering a mid-season switch in management, similar to what they did a year ago, when Erik ten Hag was dismissed just months after winning the FA Cup.

Patrice Evra recalls Man Utd sacking after Juventus dismiss Igor Tudor

Juventus announced on Monday that they had sacked coach Igor Tudor after the Serie A side lost 1-0 against Lazio.

Tudor only took charge of Juventus for 11 competitive games, accumulating just five points in their past five matches.

Juventus are currently eighth in Serie A – six points adrift of leaders Napoli – and their search for a new manager begins.

Former United left-back Patrice Evra, who spent three years at Juventus, has addressed the situation concerning Tudor and the players.

Evra explains that when a club fires a coach like Tudor, it means they haven’t done their job on the field. He makes a comparison to his experience at United, when David Moyes was fired 10 months into his six-year contract at Old Trafford.

The Frenchman uploaded a video to Instagram with a message for the Juventus players: “Dear Juventini, I saw some messages from people saying they want me as a director or a coach, but I retired four years ago and won’t go back into football. This is because I would have to sacrifice everything for football, and I am enjoying myself too much right now. I am a happy man and therefore I will be selfish about it.

“I just want to go back on the sacking of Tudor. Thank you coach for everything. This is a message for the players.

“When they fire the coach, it means you haven’t done your job on the field. It only happened to me once in my whole career, when I was at Manchester United and they sacked David Moyes. I felt like s**t, and I hope the players right now at Juventus feel the same way, because they’ve gone through three or four coaches in a couple of years now.

“You are at Juve, you have to take responsibility. The problem is this doesn’t work on the new generation, it is a soft generation. So all the commentators and pundits who are ex-players are wasting their time talking to them.

“We were football players, we played for passion, for the shirt, for history, to put food in the mouths of our families.

“This generation are athletes more than players. They are brands, they are rappers, fashionistas, get involved in politics. There are too many distractions.

“This is why I am not harsh on them, as we didn’t have those distractions. We would eat, sleep, play football, that’s it. The world has changed, not just football.

“Juve have changed completely, we have lost the real values. I remember my first game with Andrea Agnelli, I was happy to see the history everywhere, we had Pavel Nedved, Platini, others.

“One day I will return to football, but not now. I am just saying this because when you play for Juve, you have to sacrifice everything, including your family.

“The best league I won in my whole life was with Max Allegri in 2014-15, I think we were 13th in the league, lost to Sassuolo, many players wanted to get rid of Max, but I saw the same thing at United when they tried to suggest Moyes was the only reason they were losing.

“Remove the coach, now there is no excuse. If you don’t want to stay there at Juve, then leave. You are too soft.”

Moyes opened up on his sacking at United recently and put it down to missing out on Champions League football.

Man Utd record against Juventus

United have faced Juventus 14 times down the years.

The first meeting came in 1976 when Gordon Hill scored the only goal in the UEFA Cup second round first leg.

United have won six of the games, drawing twice and losing another six.
