Watford: Paulo Pezzolano says assistant Valon Berhami not an interference

Watford boss Paulo Pezzolano says assistant manager Valon Behrami is not an interference ahead of their Championship clash at home to QPR on Saturday.

Former Hornets midfielder Behrami joined Pezzolano's coaching staff this summer and has cut an animated figure on the touchline during their early-season games.

Pezzolano told BBC Three Counties Radio, in English: "For sure, he helps, every day. Valon has a good vision, he is a good person and he understands football.

"As a player, he understands the club. Yes, I am very happy."

In Spanish, via his interpreter, the Uruguayan expressed himself further.

"The important thing is we all understand each other's roles," Pezzolano added.

"We are comfortable having Valon around but, just to be clear, there has never been any interference in my career from anyone in my decisions.

"It is something that has never happened and will never happen so we are comfortable with how we are operating right now."

Berhami added: "It's something in the way I feel a little bit. I'm more of the person who wants to stay in the shadow, not in the spotlight.

"It was a moment when I was sitting next to the dugout at Charlton and the other day as well [against Norwich].

"It's more like when I feel the game. At this moment, I feel like the communication will be easier with me there.

"I can understand Spanish and I can translate in a quick way. Why not?"

When asked if he had an involvement in substitutions, Behrami responded: "Absolutely not, there is a line between me and Paolo.

"I am not getting involved in this kind of decision, this is not my job. I feel like he knows that."
