and Steve Smith (both with 36), and into the top five:

NEW DELHI: Joe Root must have had a restless night at Lord’s after finishing Day 1 of the third Test against India unbeaten on 99. But when he returned to the crease on a sunny morning, with Jasprit Bumrah ready to steam in, the England maestro wasted no time. Off the very first ball of the day, Root guided Bumrah for a crisp boundary to bring up his 37th Test century — a moment that sent the Lord’s crowd into raptures, chanting “Roooooooooooooooot” in unison. This century continues Root’s remarkable run at the Home of Cricket. His last three Test scores at Lord’s now read 143, 103, and 100 not out — making him only the third batter in history to notch three consecutive centuries at the venue, alongside legends Jack Hobbs (1912–26) and Michael Vaughan (2004–05).Root also strengthened his record against India, reaching his 11th Test hundred against them — the joint-most against India alongside Australia’s Steve Smith. It took Root 60 innings to reach the mark, while Smith did it in just 46.In doing so, Root entered elite company in the all-time list of Test century-makers.Sachin Tendulkar – 51Jacques Kallis – 45Ricky Ponting – 41Kumar Sangakkara – 38Joe Root – 37
