CommBank Matildas confirm squad for Argentina Series

A 23-player CommBank Matildas squad has been named by Interim Head Coach Tom Sermanni for the upcoming home series against Argentina in Melbourne and Canberra.

Australia will first take on Argentina at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium on Friday, 30 May (kick-off 8.00pm AEST), before heading to Canberra to face La Albiceleste at GIO Stadium on Monday, 2 June (kick-off 7.30pm AEST). Both matches will be broadcast live thanks to Football Australia’s broadcast partner, Paramount Australia and on the ABC Listen App.

The squad builds on the improved performances delivered during April’s FIFA Women’s International Window against Korea Republic, where the CommBank Matildas displayed growth across two tightly contested fixtures.

With the AFC Women’s Asian Cup Australia 2026™ drawing closer, the series against Argentina serves as an important platform to continue building cohesion while rewarding players delivering standout performances domestically and overseas.

Interim Head Coach Tom Sermanni, who continues to lead the team through this critical preparation period, said the squad reflects a commitment to consistency and competitiveness.

“We were pleased with how the group responded during the Korea Republic series as it showed that we have solid foundations as we continue to build depth and work on strengthening areas of improvement,” Sermanni said.

“This squad selection rewards players who have performed well, both here in Australia and overseas. It’s important we continue to create a competitive environment while also giving opportunities to those who’ve earned their place.”

“Every window brings us closer to the Asian Cup, and each match is a chance to improve our identity, develop our playing style further, and build the cohesion we’ll need to be successful next year.”

Vice-captain Ellie Carpenter and experienced midfielder Katrina Gorry are unavailable after being granted personal leave. While goalkeeper Mackenzie Arnold (lower leg) and midfielder Tameka Yallop (hamstring) have been ruled out due to injury.

The squad features the welcome return of Amy Sayer, who has successfully completed her rehabilitation following an ACL injury sustained in May 2024. Goalkeeper Jada Whyman is also back in the squad after an extended injury layoff, while Morgan Aquino earns a recall following consistent performances in the USL Super League.

Isabel Gomez continues her impressive rise, receiving another call-up after playing a pivotal role in Central Coast Mariners FC’s historic run to their first Ninja A-League Grand Final appearance this weekend.

Earning her first senior national team selection is forward Kahli Johnson, who becomes the latest CommBank Young Matildas talent to step into the senior ranks. The 21-year-old attacker has impressed in both her stints in the Ninja A-League and Canada’s Northern Super League.

The CommBank Matildas’ two-match series with Argentina is supported proudly by the Victorian Government through its tourism and major events authority, Visit Victoria and the ACT Government via Events ACT.
