Kolkata Knight Riders have named Tim Southee as their bowling coach for IPL 2026. The former New Zealand captain, who retired from international cricket earlier in 2025, has been part of England's Test setup as a bowling consultant.

There is a sense of familiarity to the appointment with the 36-year-old having represented KKR in 2021, 2022 and 2023 during his playing career. Across formats, Southee finished with more than 700 international wickets, over 100 Test caps, and featured in New Zealand's run to the 2019 ODI World Cup final and their World Test Championship victory in 2021.

"We are delighted to welcome Tim Southee back to the KKR family, this time in a coaching capacity," CEO Venky Mysore said. "Tim's vast experience and technical expertise will be instrumental in shaping our bowling unit. His leadership qualities and calm approach make him an ideal mentor for our young bowlers."

Southee said the move felt like a natural extension of his association with the three-time champions. "KKR has always felt like home to me, and it's an honour to return in this new role. The franchise has an incredible culture, passionate fans, and a great group of players. I look forward to working closely with the bowlers and helping the team achieve success in IPL 2026."
