Antony wants 'revenge' on Man United, reveals Real Betis boss Manuel Pellegrini - after £86m flop was sent to Spain on loan in January

Real Betis manager Manuel Pellegrini says Antony told him he wanted 'revenge' after Manchester United ousted their £86million man by sending him away on loan.

On Wednesday night, Antony will get the chance to lift the Europa Conference League trophy with LaLiga side Betis as they face Chelsea in Wroclaw, Poland.

The 25-year-old winger has enjoyed far better fortunes in Spain than in England, performing well with the help of Pellegrini, 71.

Speaking ahead of facing Enzo Maresca's side, Pellegrini said: 'I can be proud of helping Antony.

He told me he was not playing at Manchester United and was not happy. He wanted 'revenge' and to show what he can do.

'It's difficult with a €100m (£84m) price tag. Antony is a very good player. I am absolutely sure that this is a huge time for him to continue improving his career.'

Antony has been in fine form since joining Real Betis back in January, scoring a glut of goals

Now, he has the chance to lift the Europa Conference League against Chelsea on Wednesday

It comes with Manchester United finishing their worst-ever season in Premier League history

Pellegrini was also asked his opinion on Maresca, who is his close friend, with the pair having worked together at West Ham previously, complaining that Betis got two extra days to prepare for this final over Chelsea.

'Well, I read what Enzo said and I agree absolutely with him,' Pellegrini said.

'It is not because it is Betis or Chelsea but I think you cannot give anyone an advantage.

'They had a very difficult game on Sunday and they qualified for the Champions League. It will be three days, and this is normal, so I am sure Chelsea will be recovered.

'They will be a difficult team, with two days less of rest but still a difficult team.'

Pellegrini also texted Maresca at the start of the season when they began in the Conference League, revealing: 'I sent Enzo a message when we started in the group.

A very short message: 'I will see you in the final.' I also gave him a call when we won the semi-final.

'When we were working at West Ham, we were always talking about football so we both know what each other are thinking.'
