‘Superstar’ Jets to UK for Talks to Join Liverpool Alongside Frimpong

Florian Wirtz has recently flown to the United Kingdom to hold talks with Liverpool over a potential transfer, according to Christian Falk.

When Arne Slot was appointed to replace Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool, many were apprehensive about what the Dutchman would be able to accomplish in his first season at the club. Despite it being Slot’s maiden campaign in English football, he has done more than enough to silence any doubters.

Slot’s team stormed their way to the Premier League title with four games to spare, giving Liverpool their second-ever Premier League trophy. The Reds have sat atop the top flight table for much of the season and not once did they look as though they would relinquish their place. This is made all the more impressive when it is considered that Federico Chiesa, who has scarcely played for Liverpool, was Slot’s only outfield signing.

Unsurprisingly, the Anfield side already have their eye on the upcoming summer transfer window. Liverpool are pursuing Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen to replace the outgoing Trent Alexander-Arnold and it would appear that they are hoping to acquire the services of one of Frimpong’s Leverkusen teammates.

Liverpool Meet With Wirtz

Multiple teams want the playmaker

As per Christian Falk, Florian Wirtz and his representatives held a meeting with Liverpool ahead of a potential summer transfer. The attacking midfielder has spent his entire career to date with Bayer Leverkusen and at just 22 years old, has racked up well over 150 appearances for the club in all competitions, despite suffering an ACL injury in 2022.

Wirtz’s form across the 2024/25 season has only heightened his stock, the German having continued his exceptional performances from the campaign prior in which Leverkusen won the domestic double. Teammate Granit Xhaka has dubbed Wirtz as "unbelievable" for his ability.

Liverpool are not the only club that want Wirtz, as both Manchester City and Bayern Munich want to acquire his services. In Liverpool, however, Wirtz may see a chance to join a team that could assert their dominance over the Premier League for the seasons to come and may be further convinced if Frimpong, who has played with the "sensational" Wirtz for years, moves to Anfield also.
