Brentford reject Newcastle's low-ball offer for Yoane Wissa: Report

Brentford have rejected a low £25 million offer from Newcastle United for forward Yoane Wissa, according to multiple reports.

Direct talks between the clubs remain ongoing, but Brentford consider the bid well below their valuation of the forward, let alone after selling their main partner in crime, Bryan Mbeumo, to Man Utd just a few days ago.

Wissa, 28, left Brentford’s pre-season camp in Portugal this week to hold discussions with the club officials over his future. The striker is believed to be seeking a move and is particularly attracted by the opportunity to play Champions League football.

“Brentford are understood to have rejected an offer of £25m from the Magpies,” Sky Sports News reported. “A new offer is expected.”

Wissa has one year left on his current deal, with Brentford holding an option to extend for an additional 12 months. Newcastle face competition for the DR Congo international, with Tottenham and Nottingham Forest also linked to the forward.

Brentford have reportedly placed Wissa’s valuation between £40 million and £50 million, and already rejected an earlier bid from Nott Forest.

“Brentford have valued Wissa at more than £50m, underlining his importance,” The Athletic reported.

Wissa scored 19 Premier League goals last season, all from open play, after stepping in as the club’s main striker following Ivan Toney’s departure.

Brentford are reluctant to sell Wissa after already losing Bryan Mbeumo to Manchester United and club captain Christian Norgaard to Arsenal this summer.

Newcastle are searching for a forward after missing out on Hugo Ekitike, who just completed his move to Liverpool for around £79 million.
