India’s campaign at the World Table Tennis Championships 2025 came to an end after Diya Chitale and Yashaswini Ghorpade bowed out in the women’s doubles round of 16 in Doha, Qatar, on Wednesday

Chitale and Ghorpade, ranked 16th, lost 3-0 (11-7, 11-8, 11-9) against the world No.6 Japanese pair of Miwa Harimoto and Miyuu Kihara. Harimoto was part of the silver medal-winning Japanese women’s team at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Earlier in the tournament, Diya Chitale and Yashaswini Ghorpade, seeded 12th, fought back to beat Singapore’s Zeng Jian, a Commonwealth Games silver medallist, and Ser Lin Qian, 3-1 (9-11, 11-2, 11-9, 11-8) in the round of 32.

They were the only Indian pair in action on Wednesday.

In the mixed doubles, Diya Chitale, along with Manush Shah, was ousted in the round of 32 earlier in the tournament. Manush Shah and Diya Chitale won the mixed doubles title at the WTT Contender Tunis 2025 earlier this year. Asian Games bronze medallists Ayhika Mukherjee and Sutirtha Mukherjee were also eliminated at the same stage.
